Principal's Message
August 2022
For generations, Arvin High School has proudly served the rural communities of Arvin, Lamont and Weedpatch. Since 1949, our school has taken pride in providing a well-rounded and rigorous academic program designed to mold our students into becoming contributors to the global society.
Our commitment to ensuring that ALL students learn at high levels is reflected in our rigorous course offerings, requiring students to read various forms of text, engage in multiple writing endeavors, utilizing speaking and listening activities, and employing UDL strategies to allow students the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of the content standards in various ways. We offer a strong college preparatory program, along with a robust GATE, AP and Honors program. We are proud to report that in the 2022-2023 school year we will offer 62 sections of Dual Enrollment course offerings to students to earn college credit while still in high school. Our goal is to leverage our Dual Enrollment offerings along with our Early College Model to set students up for their future, providing powerful learning opportunities while still in high school. In the past two years, we have graduated 18 students with an AA Degree for transfer through our Dual Enrollment/Early College Programs with Bakersfield College.
As a fully comprehensive high school, we are committed to offering unique career pathways which prepare students for post-secondary life. To demonstrate our commitment to Career Technical Education, Arvin High School has built 10 distinct pathway offerings, many of which offer Dual Enrollment credit, available for students. Our CTE course offerings include Ag Animal Science, Ag Mechanics, Auto Technology, Business, Manufacturing and Video Production. Also included in the CTE program are 3 distinct California Partnership Academies for students to take advantage of. The first is the Construction Design Academy which offers both Architectural Design and Construction Design pathways. Second, is the Environmental Horticulture Academy which focuses on the crop science side of our agriculture program. Finally, our Health Careers pathway which is steeped in Dual Enrollment opportunity and the ability to earn a Certificate in Medical Assisting.
A well-rounded high school experience includes lively student participation in activities outside of the classroom. Our athletic programs, academic competition teams, visual and performing arts programs, student government, and student clubs offer many opportunities for students with a wide variety of interests.
Our staff and community are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment that promotes Participation, Responsibility, Integrity, Determination and Empathy toward others. These 5 qualities provide the backbone on which we continue to build our school’s culture. We strive to ensure that all students are taught the 5 basic tenets of our Bear PRIDE program through the weekly facilitation of class lessons. Providing a foundation of expectations in which both students and staff understand will prove to create a more focused and productive culture.
We continue to strive to build connections and focus our efforts on partnering with parents. Our parents play an integral role in their child’s educational success. Parents are encouraged to participate in our parent organizations. We have seen many parents play an integral role in the school’s academic and extracurricular programs. We invite you to become involved in our Arvin High School Parent University, School Site Council, AHS Athletic Boosters, and Parent Night with the Principal, to name a few. Each of these organizations provides financial and volunteer support for our students and teachers.
At Arvin High School, we set high standards for ourselves and strive to achieve the School’s Mission and Vision to ensure that all students have the opportunity to become a successful citizen.
